Murini beads

A murini is created by layering coloured glass in order to create a design that can only be seen at its end. To make her signature murini, Mary Ann combined the capital letter M and the capital letter A to form her initials. She then heated the rod of glass and pulled it out until it became narrow but still retained the perfect cross section of her initials. The rod of glass was then annealed in the kiln. Once it was cooled it was cut into small discs or slices. Each slice of this rod has a picture of her initials making this her signature murini.

Below are two views of a beads with a signature murini.

Lampwork artists will often place signature murini in larger sized focal beads. Smaller beads that are part of sets are often not signed. Purchasing a bead that contains a signature murini increases the value of the bead. Mary Ann will sign beads upon request.
